Exmouth Yacht Club:  Pre-Season Learn to Sail

EYC welcomed visiting instructors who ran our pre-season sailing courses from mid Sept to early Oct 2024.  Over three weeks they have held Tackers 1, 2 and 3 (ages 7-12yrs), Start Sailing 1 (teens and adults), Discover Sailing Session for adults, a private lesson and Out There Sailing fun day (teens).  Group numbers were kept low to focus on quality of training with a whole heap of fun!

Youth Week

Every year around the country, sailing clubs hold their annual Youth Week and championships.  The 2024 Zhik Youth Sail WA event incoporporated a four-day Westsail Coaching Clinic with the State's top coaches (21 – 24 Sept), and WA Youth Championship (25 – 26 Sept). Mounts Bay Sailing Club hosted the event, offering their fabulous hospitality, ample beach space and the sheltered waters of Matilda Bay.

Optimist Sailing

Did you know that the Optimist is the biggest youth racing class in the world for youth aged up to 15yrs?  There are opportunities to train and compete within Australia and around the world!  If you’re youngsters loved Tackers and has a thirst to continue their sailing journey, this could be the next step for them.  To find out more you can go to the Australian International Optimist Dinghy Association website:  https://www.optimist.org.au/about or follow their facebook page.

Young Endeavour - an opportunity of a lifetime!

Does your child have a passion for sailing and want to try something different?  Youth aged between 16 to 23 yrs can apply to join the Young Endeavour Youth Development Program that is internationally recognised in the field of sail training. 

Crew work in small teams, and sail the ship twenty-four hours a day in all types of conditions, all the while being trained and supported by Royal Australian Navy personnel. They will embark on a life-changing 11-day journey – learning not only how to sail a square-rigged tall ship, but how to lead, support others and work together as a team.  Be prepared to face your fears, push yourself out of your comfort zone and discover how you rise to challenges. It’s an adventure like no other!

ILCA (Laser Sailing)

Did you know that the single-handed laser dinghy is an international and Olympic class of boat that is the world’s most popular youth (from age 15yrs), adult and masters racing class?

Rolex Sydney to Hobart Race (December)

Every year on Boxing Day it's time to sit back and watch the thrilling 2024 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Race, a 628 nautical mile sailing challenge.  Did you know that this year (2024) mother and daughter, Sophie and Annette Hesselmans, have entered as a double handed crew and the oldest boat competing was built in 1904!

 

The official website has lots of interesting information, and when the race is on you can watch in real time to see where each vessel is at.  Who knows, one day you might even be part of the race!
